The staff at ICP is working on plans for the 8th Global Conference. The location and theme of the conference will be announced in the coming months.

In September 2007 Time Magazine devoted a cover story to ideas for scaling up national service in the US, which included the Summer of Service program initiated by ICP. You can access the article via Time Magazine's website

In August 2007, Nieves Tapia, Director of the Latin American Center for Service Learning and an IANYS Global Council Member, hosted a very successful International Seminar on Service-Learning.

OLDER NEWS:

In the June 2007 issue of Service News Worldwide (n.144, p.2) it is reported that, under ICP’s new leadership of IANYS, a Global Council is being formed that will include dedicated individuals from around the world to provide general oversight and direction for the association. Former IANYS Steering Committee members, including Reuven Gal, Michael Sherraden, Susan Stroud, Jim Kielsmeier and Nieves Tapia, will remain on the Global Council.

The new Chairman of IANYS is Dame Elisabeth Hoodless, DBE

New Council members to date include Licio Palazzini, Marie Trellu-Kane, Busani Ngcaweni, Ali Khan, Christopher Witt and Dr. Yuanzhu Ding. More details.

September 2007 update: The staff at ICP is working on plans for the 8th Global Conference, which is planned for 2008.
The most recent conference held was the 7th Global Conference of IANYS, held in August 2004 at the Accra International Conference Centre in Ghana. Theme: Impact of National Youth Service. Its proceedings are not yet online.
The proceedings of the 6th global conference, held in Buenos Aires in 2002, were published as a supplement to the December 2004 issue of the journal, "Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly" with the title "Toward a global research agenda on civic service". The supplement was edited by Amanda Moore McBride and Michael Sherraden of the Global Service Institute, which is based at Washington University at St. Louis.

The International Association for National Youth Service (IANYS) aims to stimulate and facilitate the exchange of information about national youth service (NYS), and to help realise the promise of national youth service. More details.

About national youth service

The concept of "national youth service", or NYS, is increasingly taking a place alongside education and work as an activity for young people that is constructive in itself and an investment in the future.

Seven global conferences on national youth service have been held to date.

The conferences, held every two years, provide a snapshot on developments in national youth service initiatives around the globe.

About the International Association for National Youth Service (IANYS):

A global conference on national youth service in the United States in 1992 led to others (in Nigeria in 1994, Papua New Guinea in 1996, the United Kingdom in 1998, Israel in 2000, Argentina in 2002 and Ghana in 2004, and led to the formation of an international organisation concerned with promoting excellence in NYS around the world: the International Association for National Youth Service.
